Create Your Community
The Wiser Me started with a simple idea. How can I bring my girlfriends together so we can learn about the menopause transition, and wellness tools and products that focus on women in their third curve so we can thrive in midlife. And while we're at it, let's throw a party and give each other a little support. Our salons are informal and fun, full of new connections being made, and honestly, just a little bit noisy.
7 Easy Steps to Build a Vibrant, Grassroots Women's 40+ Community in Your Town
1
Canvas your girlfriend network for connections to locations that could host your events for free. This could be a hair salon, a store, a restaurant, a community center, or even someone's home. Ask if the owner or manager would like to partner and potentially bring in new customers for their business. Ideally, you shouldn't have to pay for the location.
2
Research health and wellness practitioners in your area. Follow them on social media if they have accounts. Go to other events in the women's health and wellness space in order to make connections and find potential speakers.
3
Sign up for a digital event creation tool like Eventbrite so you can create events and track RSVPs. We recommend making your events free to start, or ask for donations at the door. If you are serving alcohol, you legally cannot sell it at the event without a license -- sliding scale pricing in advance can help cover your costs of any refreshments.
4
Set up a social media account so you can promote your local The Wiser Me salons. We recommend Instagram, Facebook, and Bluesky Social.
5
Organize your event, find sponsors who may want to partner with you. It's better if they see value in your community and will show up for each salon. Sponsorship can come in the form of money or product. Just make sure you have aligned values, visions and goals for the partnership.
6
Promote. Promote. Promote. Tell everyone about what you're doing. Email your local communities, text your friend groups for support, and don't forget to use social media. Check out @thewiser.me for examples.
7
Event day: pick up beverages, ice, and snacks. Have your team show up 30 minutes early, set up list.
